Akio I

Don’t remember the date – maybe it was the fourth of September;

Your gaze like a spear

      pierced me through the heart

Stayed mum, you said nothing, raised an eyebrow,

Longinitus dictated my thoughts

Cheeks hot like pepper, cher stares back from a distance

Dreams of letters opened under a cherry tree, falling leaves

spinning above us like all the stars of the Milky Way

Mouth unopened:

Am I capable of –

wooden frames clunk, paper mache door snaps shut-

   ‘God don’t tell her’, cue friend. Hints of you in the disguise of boy, vegetable, mineral, Peter Pan,

Playboy, medicine seller, forgotten friend,

infused my vacation days with days spent with you

Confession and downhill on this winter holiday,

   No need for tears, puppeteers,

   Untangle our strings,

   since they cannot be cut

    (you’re already written in my dna)
